Applications for the Appalachian Youth Leadership Summit now open
The Appalachian Youth Leadership Summit (AYLS) is searching for passionate 10th and 11th-grade students from the 42 Kentucky school districts served by the Appalachian Cradle to Career Partnership, along with Claiborne County, TN & Lee County, VA, to gather at Lincoln Memorial University in Claiborne County, TN for an unforgettable experience.
What is in Store?
At AYLS, students will embark on a journey of self-discovery and growth while connecting with fellow student leaders and scholars. Here is a glimpse of what awaits:
- Community Service Projects: Students will dive into hands-on service projects that make a difference in local communities.
- Workshop Sessions: Students will explore topics like leadership development, arts and cultural engagement, college readiness, and discipline-specific areas such as health sciences, business, education, veterinary medicine, law, and more.
- Entrepreneurial Field Trips: Students will be immersed in entrepreneurial ventures through exciting field trips in the area.
- Keynote Evening Events: Students will be inspired by Appalachian heroes as they share their stories and celebrate our collective Appalachian heritage.
- Challenge Exhibition: Students will tackle real-world challenges facing their communities, propose a solution, and showcase their team’s work at a community-wide celebration.
- Feedback and Mentorship: Students will receive valuable feedback from guest panel judges and connect with professional mentors/coaches who will guide them along the way.
When and Where?
Students should mark their calendars for Monday, June 10 through Thursday, June 13, 2024.
Students will gather at LMU’s residential housing in Harrogate, TN, with meals served at the LMU Dining Hall. From there, students will embark on exciting community service projects and field trips in Middlesboro, KY, Harrogate, and Cumberland Gap, TN.
