Students at Diboll High School are thriving thanks to the opportunities provided by the school’s HVAC dual credit program, a partnership with Angelina College. Combining hands-on technical training with college-level coursework, the program has inspired participants to take ownership of their education and embrace their future with confidence.
A highlight for many students is the program’s hands-on learning approach. Practical lab work and real-world applications provide engaging opportunities for growth. “I really like the hands-on stuff—it’s where we actually learn the best,” one student said.
The students’ dedication has translated into significant attendance improvements. Attendance challenges were notable for the 2023-2024 school year. During the 2024-2025 school year, absences have decreased by 66%, highlighting their remarkable progress and their desire to reach their full potential.
This enthusiasm is evident in their commitment to the program. HVAC instructor Stephen Hammonds noted, “They’re excited to be here. When I learned about their improved attendance, I was blown away. These students have a drive I’ve never seen before.”
The program’s structure adds excitement and purpose to their daily routine. “I know that I only come to school for a certain amount of time and then we go to the college, and that’s something that I like doing,” said one student. “It makes the day go by faster and gives me something to look forward to.”
The program also offers students the chance to earn industry-recognized certifications, preparing them for workforce entry upon graduation. Some have already begun gaining real-world experience through shadowing or part-time work, further enhancing their career readiness.
“This program has completely changed how I feel about school,” another student shared. “I’m on time, my grades are better, and I look forward to coming to class every day.”
The HVAC dual credit program at Diboll High School demonstrates the power of combining education with career-focused training. By equipping students with in-demand skills and fostering a sense of purpose, the program serves as a model for schools seeking to connect learning with workforce readiness and long-term success.
